Road Access to the Kwale Minerals Sand Project

Client: Base Titanium

The project involved the design and construction of infrastructure works to support the proposed mining activities for Base Titanium Kwale Mineral sands project in Kwale county. The project was divided into several work
packages and Howard Humphreys was involved in the following three packages.
• CP 1- design and construction of processing plant and associated infrastructure
• CP 2 – Design and construction of a port facility and associated infrastructure
• CP6 – Design and construction of a 7.7 Km long bitumen surfaced road, a camp site and shared facilities.
The assignment also included conducting a traffic Impact assessment for the entire development.
Services provided:
• Site Geotechnical/ Services investigation
• Engineering Surveys
• Engineering designs for the Access Road
• Engineering designs for the camp and shared facilities .
• Engineering design support for the Port Facility
• Engineering design support for the processing plant
• Traffic Impact assessment for the development including haulage from the mine to the Port Facility
• Full Time Site Supervision for the three works packages (CP1, CP2,CP6).
The project was completed successfully, and the Client has been mining the sands since commissioning. The residents and Kwale County in particular continue to benefit hugely as they share and are allocated some of the revenue
from the proceeds of this resource.
